Virtual Drug Design Drug design refers to the inventive process of creating new compounds and medications based on our knowledge of a biological target. Often, this biological target is a protein that may be inhibited to provide a therapeutic effect. A detailed understanding of a protein's structure and function is often required in the design of novel inhibitors. Xbox Design Lab will be back in 2021. The EDS Prototype/Create Lab is a resource for students to build, test, and document their creations. First opened in the Spring of 2014, the space houses equipment and trained student workers to support the research, design, and entrepreneurial activities of Mines students. Current capabilities include plastic 3D Printing, acrylic and wood Laser Cutting/Etching, and Electronics build stations. Additionally, tools, instruments, and audio/video equipment are available for student use and check-out. It is located adjacent to the Capstone Design@Mines Senior Design Lab (Brown WW155) and serves as an overflow environment for clean (dust-free) builds.

The staff reserves the right to refuse a 3D Print or laser project if there is an excessive backlog on the machines, if the part is a poor fit for the technology, or if there is a problem with the geometry (for example, multiple failed attempts to produce the part).
The possession of firearms and other weapons on or within Mines' campus, property or leased premises is prohibited. Therefore, the use of the Prototype/Create Lab equipment to produce weapons is expressly prohibited and student staff will turn away any students attempting to create weapons in the facility.
